Where Can You Find Environmentally Responsible Products and Packaging?
Called green, earth-friendly, or sustainable, environmentally responsible products and packaging are referred to in many different ways. But they clearly have a dual focus: helping to reduce waste in the environment while providing the functional performance that we expect from plastics.
Demand for environmentally friendly products and packaging is rising at double-digit rates in many categories, according to recent research conducted by the Natural Marketing Institute. As a result of this trend, creative brand owners and retailers can realize the performance and environmental benefits of Mirel’s biodegradability in natural soil and water environments, home composting systems, and industrial composting facilities. However, like nearly all other bioplastics and organic matter, Mirel is not designed to biodegrade in landfills. The rate and extent of Mirel's biodegradability will demand on the size and shape of the articles made from it.
The Sustainable Packaging Coalition has guidelines for the design of environmentally responsible products and packaging. These guidelines suggest reducing waste, minimizing the energy required in disposable package manufacturing, and utilizing biobased or recycled materials in package production. It is a scenario in which business benefits from meeting consumer demand for environmentally safe products—and communities work towards reducing landfill waste.
