Telles has a vision to be greenhouse-gas-neutral. Unlike fossil carbon in oil, which is removed from the earth, the raw material feedstock for Mirel bioplastics is plant-derived sugar, a renewable resource created by photosynthesis. The commercial PHA manufacturing facility under construction in Clinton, Iowa, is the first of its kind. Thus, there is no prior industrial-scale operating history for making PHA bioplastics.
